Have I now become your enemy by telling you the truth?
Galatians 4:16
While working in Hunt County, Texas in the winter of 2024, an idea came to mind. As a young person interested in World War II history, the story of Audie Murphy had always held a particular interest. I read three different biographies of Murphy before finishing high school. The autobiographical war film, To Hell and Back, was a favorite in the household. Decades later, an opportunity presented itself. My archaeological journeys had taken me through the town of Greenville, Texas on many occasions. I would often stop for a visit to the Audie Murphy/American Cotton Museum. Sometimes, I would just stop by to gaze at the larger-than-life statue of America's most decorated World War II soldier. A brief historic excavation in Hunt County, not far from Murphy's birthplace, inspired a new documentary project. This particular video had the fastest turnaround of any of my other projects. I began in January of 2025, with a self-imposed deadline of June 20, 2025 for completion. June 20th marked the 100th anniversary of Audie Murphy's birth. It's an appropriate time for a look back at the life and legacy of America's Greatest Soldier.
